Hi, friends! Happy Tuesday!
Want to hear a secret?
I’ve never fancied running. I thought the jolting and the heavy breathing and the side aches could never compare to yoga or toning… or sleeping in.
I always tried to like it though.
In a burst of brief motivation, I would commit to running twice a week around my neighborhood. That’s doable, right?
You would think! (heh)
Each time, however, I found my motivation waning after the first mile or the first week of hitting the pavement. I would feel disappointed in myself that I was unable to stick consistently to running and then the cycle would begin again, with no glass ceilings being broken on the consistency front.
That’s why, when one of my favorite organizations in the whole world, Dressember, announced their first annual 5k race, I knew I had found a goal that I could run towards.
Indeed, I’ve been training for nearly a month now, consistently tying up my laces, in rain or shine, to jog around my neighborhood. While I’m still, by all means, a beginner (one mile is far enough, thank you very much!), I am quite proud of myself for sticking to it and running every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
And that pretty much sums up the spirit of Dressember – empowering women who then empower women.
For those of you who aren’t familiar with Dressember, it’s a fundraising campaign that leverages fashion and creativity to raise money for the fight against human trafficking. It does this predominantly through a commitment women around the globe make to wear a dress every day for the month of Dressember in an effort to raise money + awareness for the fight against human trafficking. The funds raised are organized into grants, which are given to organizations, such as IJM, who is leading the charge in the fight to end modern-day slavery.
This past year Dressember raised over $2 million!!! And next month, to keep that momentum going, they are hosting their very first off-season event ever! A 5k race! You set a goal, tell your friends, and run a short race with BIG impact!
Dressember is the reason I’ve been committed to running even on those mornings when all I want to do is press the snooze button. Pacing for a purpose!
Run with me on May 20th to raise awareness + money for the fight against human trafficking!
